PostSubject: Geography of Adonia   Fri Jan 30, 2015 9:02 am

First topic message reminder :

Here we can discuss how the actual LAND of Adonia will appear, which, considering Cipher's lack of geographical description outside of 'here thar be', would b extremely beneficial.

As of now, however, we should decide on cities and landmarks, which we can then establish relative locations between, and then iron it out here. The blank space in between landmarks is a lot less important than the landmarks themselves.

So think of this as a placeholder, I suppose.

Okay. So based on the directions Rid gave us and fiddling around with Paint with what little knowledge I have, I managed to mark the named dots. I also dug around in the original Adonia topic and found some unmarked locations. So I placed dots where I felt they would go best and marked them. Everyone is of course free to disagree with me and give their own opinions on where things should go, but I am kinda the only one giving any idea on it now, so...yeah. Someone else is also free to make the map look better later. My marks are just a general idea.

Here is my beta map.
Spoiler:

One thing worth mentioning is I assumed Cruzante valley was a landmark and not a town, so I marked it as such. If that was a mistake, I will correct it later. I also attempted to place Arreas and Selphia on the map based on the twins' directions in the chatbox from earlier. They are of course also free to move them if they wish. Again, just a general idea. Let me know if I fucked up but please be gentle, this is my first time here and I'm no artist.

Alright, after some discussion in chat, I placed a few more towns and things. Here's the new beta map.

Spoiler:

Notable new additions include Berkshire, a stronghold on the border of the desert, Team Magma HQ on an island which I would appreciate getting a volcanic edit in the future, and a few other small towns and villages. I also actually placed a dungeon. I couldn't think of a better name, so I stole the name Labyrinthia for the Narrator's Dungeon.

Comments and such are always welcome.

While we're at it, that island north of the volcano and east of the Rideps place, can I call that? And make it moderately volcanic like the big one? I have a plan I could fit anywhere even not with that, but ideally that'd be how I'd want it.

I say go for it.

Speaking of which, I kinda want that small stretchy island west of the snowy area of Adonia, south and closest to Zima. For plot things :V

Spoiler:

Added Montilles on the mountain and Nia Dara and Tsara'an in the desert. I added Kevranstown back where it was and since Arvishall's location is not as isolated I moved and renamed it: The ruins are now Nia Athu'a, a planned third city whose construction halted after an earthquake - the ruins now are only half complete and still half destroyed.

I don't remember where I posted my own map modifications but it seems to have been lost so I'm just putting them back in. If anyone wants to try to make this fit the legend, here is my island:

Just north of Magma HQ.

Why three Nias? Don't really have anything against it, just seems a bit redundant.

The continuity is a cultural thing. The whole region is referred to by some people by its very unofficial name "Nia Desert" which is based off the name of the two large cities (and the oft forgotten ruins), but is also not far from what the region was known as in ancient times. Nia'a, or "[made] of gold"

That is, if such an explanation is alright with the rest of the people? I won't add lore if it conflicts.

Let's avoid crowding the desert any past that, Lao wanted to have nomadic tribes wandering out there. At least leave the southwest quad empty.

Well, apart from the glass formation that January caused. He said he wanted them to kind of congregate there, so it should probably get a name. Have to consult him for that part, but I'm thinking make a dot at the corner south of Aen and west of Tsara'an? Will have to see if that works for Lao too, since I'm ok with it being pretty much anywhere but in view of the sea.

I want the desert to remain isolated too. That's why I moved the ruins there; they were originally in the center of where Terian, Sparalong, and Calarico are now.

So please don't get the idea that I'm trying to industrialize the desert. All activity is a small ellipse with the two Nias as the foci.

If you guys could settle what should be added and what may need to be removed, I can do that. Tod's map was kind of unexpected since I thought I was doing the map. I think it'd be better for just one person to be handling it for now so things don't get confused. Please just let me mark things, and someone else can make it look pretty later. Also if you want to claim an island, I can put names and dots, but for anything more complicated like adding in volcano, you might need to get someone else to add that in later. Then again the volcanic area already doesn't look THAT great to begin with and I might be able to at least replicate that. No offense to whoever did that.

Also if you want ruins, I think that should be marked as a landmark, not a city.

Oh I know, it's just if there's stuff spread all throughout the place, ruined or not, it'd be kinda weird to have nomads all over. At least if they're not 80% buried. Usually nomadic tribes start from necessity.

Athu'a is a landmark.

But if you don't like the map, that's okay. I just find it easier to show than tell. And the island thing I made was made a long time ago, I was just reposting it since the original post was lost to time and topic confusion.

New map based on discussion in chat.

Spoiler:

Volcanic island to the south is currently ruled by the Koopas who have been driven to near extinction everywhere else hundreds of years ago. Now they only exist on this island and those alive today believe that the landmass they occupy is the extent of the world. They became the dominant power on that island a few decades ago when the Koopa Elder Kamek handed the throne to Bowser when he became of age. Since then they have taken what was at the time their only settlement, Koopa Village, and re-purposed it as their capital city, Koopa City and erected more settlements around the island. They believe to have taken over the world and have no idea of the world that exists beyond the ocean.

Other than that, I have marked a dot on Smash's unnamed island and put a name above Rid's claimed island of Gondo.

Okay, due to the different styles incorporated into the map, I have some questions about the relative sizes of the cities/towns/villages because it's honestly hard to tell which are which.

Kevranstown - Town
Labyrinthia - Landmark
Selphia -
Arreas -
Livren Town - Town
Eribank Town - Town
Berkshire - City
Monteport - City
Riverwood -
Crystalpine -
Lochmere - Town
Friezant - Capital
Kuro's Home -
Rukia -
Linfall -
Glade Village - Village
Rideps Home -
[Unnamed] -
Petalburg -
Roler Town - Town
Koopa City - City
Mt. Koopa - Landmark
Aeldwald -
Terian -
Cruzante Valley
Montilles - Town
Sparalong City - City
Calarico Stronghold - Landmark
Aen -
Nia Athu'a - Landmark

For the record, of the ones I've claimed, Riverwood and Petalburg are villages. Koopa City is a city, hence the name. I think it's a pretty safe bet that anything with city in the name is a city. Labyrinthia and Calarico Stronghold are landmarks.

Could I get a town named Dyre over on the northwestern snowy region, as close to Zima as possible when someone has the time and patience and stuff? Migrant town and stuff.

So I thought of something to add, gee willikers :0

I'm thinking the Bryant estate could be between Labyrinthia and Friezant.

Also since the "plot" of sorts has to do with the outrealm gates breaking down or some such, I figured a few should be placed. I would like to request one semi-close to Linfall at least.
