First topic message reminder :

The exterior of this place is unimpressive. It appears as a simple cave with two entrances closed off by stone doors, though they lead to the same place. There's a plaque in between, but the ancient text is too faded to read. The interior however remains a mystery as it's ever changing.

"That doesn't tend to happen. In fact, you're the first to ever return. Which I find confusing since you hated the story the most out of everyone. If you hate this place so much, why come back here?"

So none of your stories are ever fatal? Or do people always respawn?

"Fatalities go completely against my purpose here. Besides, it is completley impossible for one to die in a story. If one perceives their own death, they just respawn because the death itself was not real. I'm not raising anyone from the dead here, death simply does not happen."

I see... So if the person refuses to perceive the story you narrate, what happens?

"Would you believe that has yet to happen? Even you, the most stubborn of my characters are rather vulnerable to the power of suggestion. That and my own power has grown over the centuries. Or perhaps it's been longer? I've lost count I'm afraid, it's been so long...if you'd like to see what I mean, you need only attempt to grasp my hand." The Narrator holds out his hand.

Indeed, her hand passes through his. "I understand this is a lot to process, and my story isn't even over yet. However I must ask you to listen carefully and with an open mind. I will provide you with the answers to all your questions, but on the condition that you cooperate with me. Wishful thinking on my part, but I need you to understand the gravity of the situation and what it is I'm trying to do here. If giving you the full story is what it takes, then so be it."

The Narrator opens his tome to the very first page and takes on a melancholy tone.

Spoiler:

"This is the very sad story about an ancient Kingdom named Labyrinthia. Labyrinthia was quite a prosperous kingdom, even if not a particularly large one. It was a town that focused entirely on inward expansion, and so a single city grew to have the wealth and splendor of an entire kingdom. Its Queen was universally loved by the people as she brought the Kingdom to its state of prosperity. However, things suddenly felt very very wrong. The Queen was not acting like herself. Odd laws were enacted, dissenters were put on trial and executed...it was quite an ordeal. Investigations as to this odd behavior were conducted in secret, and the corpse of the Queen was discovered. The one impersonating the Queen was then put on trial, and subsequently sentenced to death by fire.

At the execution as everyone called for the death of the one who had so cruelly condemned many to death, the impersonator revealed her true colors as a horrific demon. She cast off her human shape and took on a large shadowy form. She plunged the kingdom into a state of darkness, slaughtering everyone in her way. She surely would have gone after the rest of the world had it not been for the intervention of one man. The Court Wizard. He made a difficult decision to seal away Labyrinthia forever, along with the demon. It was a long, hard fought battle, but the Court Wizard managed to corner the demon for a short time.

Using this opportunity, he began the sealing. The entire Kingdom sank below the ground, and the seal was placed all around so nothing could escape. The Wizard attempted to create a window of opportunity for any survivors to escape, but the demon placed a curse on him with the last of her strength. He was then bound to this place for all of eternity, and could not stray far. Undeterred, he sealed her and the rest of the Kingdom away behind a large unbreakable door. He had won! It was a hollow victory however, as he was the sole survivor of the tragedy, and he could not stray very far from that door. To this day, he acts as the guardian of the Lost Kingdom of Labyrinthia, making sure none break the seal and set the demon free to wreak havoc upon the rest of the world.

...If you were following my story, you would easily deduce that I am the man from the story. I use my ancient powers to craft illusions that keep people away from the door. Have you noticed that when you enter this place, you immediately black out? That's my doing of course. I use that time while you're unconscious to craft the story you find yourself in. As I said however, it's all an illusion. Nothing you see within the stories I craft are real. In fact, you simply walk around in circles not far from where you first enter- just like you're doing right now. Not even this area is real. It's simply a space I've created for myself, as it reminds me of home. If I have to haunt this place for eternity, I might as well find some way to enjoy it!

And that's my story. I never meant you or anyone else any harm. Deceiving you was nothing personal, but I cannot permit that demon to be released into the world."

I see. An interesting tale. Normally I would not believe what you say easily, but the situation has changed a bit now.

She puts the pen to her mouth, looking deep in thought.

What now?

"Now? I am not entirely sure. Ideally, I would like for you to leave this place and never return. You mentioned vampires before, correct? As I told you before, I have no affiliation with any vampires. Whatever it is you're looking for, you won't find it here. Even if I brought down this illusion, all you would find is a large empty cave with the door at the end, and I cannot allow you or anyone else near it."

Why does time pass so oddly here? Do you control that? Does it affect my lifespan outside of here?

"I can alter your perception of time, yes. However it does not affect your lifespan in any meaningful way. I merely cast powerful illusions. I cannot make you immortal, nor shave years from your lifespan."

"There is one last thing I should clarify. That notepad you're using is real and will remain even after you leave here. There are some things I have lying around from ancient times that I use. Travelers also occasionally leave things behind and never come back for them. Now then,  I see little point in maintaining the illusion for you. Just walk to the end of the hall you used to get here and you'll be able to leave."
