PostSubject: The Adventures of Wheatley and Zerdark: Koopa Island Edition   Mon Aug 01, 2016 9:04 pm

First topic message reminder :

A small ship begins to approach an unfamiliar harbor. The man at the helm yells to wake his sleeping passengers. "Oi! Wake your asses up! We've got land! Land ho! Lan-" "Aaaaaguh!" A thud is heard as Wheatley collides with the man's head. "Oww..." "Ey!" An un-amused Zerdark stands in front of the door to the captain's room. "Would you stop your screaming you drunk cyclops? I'm trying to catch up on sleep..." "What're ye talkin' about? It's got to be way past mornin' now!" "Well someone kept me up all night with their sea shanties and partying." "Aah, don't pretend like you don't love em!" "Tavish. You wouldn't stop for hours. I only got to sleep sometime after 4 in the morning. You know how I know this? I threw my watch at the wall in frustration and it must have broke. For all I know it could have been even later." "Eheheh...sorry laddie." "You're paying for that watch by the way. Now if you pull this crap again, I'm drowning you in the saltwater and sailing myself home." "Ooh, that's just the crankiness talking! Come on, have a drink with me! That'll cheer ya right up!" "No. No it won't. What'll cheer me up is finding that island I described to you. I specifically asked for your help because of your past experiences sailing. I swear if I made the wrong decision-" "What'd ye think I got ya up for? We're coming up on it right now!"

The ship begins to dock at the harbor, where a bunch of Koopas begin to gather. Zerdark just looks at them and sighs internally. "...You've gotta be fucking kidding me." "What?" "This is what I was worried about? They're adorable. I was expecting battle hardened warriors, not a trip to the aquarium." "Oh, look at all the turtles! I've never seen em that big before!" "Tavish, you stay with the ship. I'm gonna go look around." "Ooh, you mean it? Maybe we can take one home with us!" "I somehow doubt that'll go over well. Besides, do you remember your pet goldfish?" "I was only trying to hand-feed it, I didn't think I'd electrocute the thing!" "You don't even have hands!" "Well...alright, I see, point to you. That might have been a flaw in my otherwise flawless plan. Just a small one though." "I'm not getting you another pet." "Aww...okay then." "Now then, let's get moving. With any luck, maybe these people have built an inn nearby." "You just want to sleep? But we just got here!" "I see an opportunity to nap, I'm taking it. Why do you think I told Tavish to stay behind?" "Ah...fair point."

"Pardon me, I have orders to escort the defendant. And don't worry, "Mr. Shroud", we'll try to prevent another victim." Lady Bow appears.

"Fair enough," Jolene says. "You have my confidence. Now, if you'll excuse me, I must be going." Jolene adjusts her glasses and turns to follow Lady Bow.

When Zerdark makes it back to the Glitz Pit, the doors slam shut behind him and several Boos appear to stand guard. Zerdark wasn’t planning to leave right now anyway so he pays it no mind. Some of the other fighters however stand in the lobby complaining. ”Good to see I can count on everyone to help with the investigation.” He leaves the lobby after that remark and heads backstage. He decides to head to the storage area first.

”Doesn’t seem to be much of the police runnin’ about, does there?” ”Haven’t you learned by now? They’re probably invisible. Well, except for that one in the coat.” ”Oh, now that you mention him, I do see him! He actually seems to be running towards us.” ”Hey! You’re that Silver guy from the trials, right?” ”Silver Shroud, yes. Can I help you?” ”Huh? Oh, no. I’m here to help YOU, pal!” ”Help me?” ”Sure! I guess I should tell you who I am first, huh? Name’s Gumshoe, pal. Detective Gumshoe!”

Spoiler:

”Wait…you’re the new detective on this case? I was expecting someone less…lively.” ”I didn’t expect to get picked either. I’m pretty new actually, but King Boo himself showed up and told me to get to work!” ”Oh…I see. Clever. Bring in someone too new to be corrupt.” ”Wait, so it’s not because he sees potential in me or something? You sure know how to crush a guy’s dreams, pal…” ”Oh, no! I’m…uh, I’m sure you’ll do fine. (This guy looks more like a lost puppy than a homicide detective…I’ll have to be more careful with my words here.) ”You mean it pal? I won’t disappoint you! Detective Gumshoe is on the case!” ”So do you have any information for me?” ”Oh yeah, right. I was told to tell you something. All evidence touched by the police in the last investigation is supposed to be thrown out.” ”Wait, ALL of it?” ”That’s right pal, we’re starting from scratch! The clipboard, autopsy report, all of its going straight into the trash!”

-All evidence handed over to Detective Gumshoe-

”So back to square one, huh?” ”Pretty much, pal! But I’m supposed to help with that. I’m here to reinvestigate the old evidence and give you an update based on what we find.” ”Why exactly are you helping me?” ”Well, you ain’t exactly a suspect. King Boo said he trusts you, pal. He probably expects you to work that courtroom magic and find our killer. Boy am I glad I’m not you right now, pal!” ”No pressure then, right.” ”No worries, pal! Detective Gumshoe is on the case, remember?” ”So what do you have for me so far, detective?” ”I’m glad you asked! Here, I have an updated autopsy report for you.” ”Well that’s definitely an important piece of evidence to have, thank you.” ”No problem, pal! Now, let’s get to the investigating!”

-FINAL INVESTIGATION: START!-

Spoiler:

”Well first things first. Let’s take a look at the autopsy.”

Full Name: Anthony Bandit
Alias: Bandy Andy
Cause of Death: Blunt force trauma.
Notes: Victim was hit in the head by a large object. Death is estimated to have been nearly instantaneous, but it is possible that the victim lived for a couple of minutes before death. However, this time must have been spent unconscious. There were several cuts and tiny pieces of glass found inside the main head wound. If the blow to the head didn’t kill him immediately, the internal bleeding paired with the external bleeding certainly did. Victim didn’t stand a chance of surviving.

-Truth Bullet Added: Autopsy Report-

”Well…that’s uh…that’s quite detailed.” ”Definitely more detailed than the old report.” ”The old report was apparently rushed by Detective Herringway. He didn’t give the boys at the station enough time to go into detail.” ”Great, even now we continue to find more gifts from our old friend…” ”Well don’t worry, pal! This is why we’re doing it all over again!” ”Right…so do you have anything else for me?” ”Right, I’m also supposed to give you a detailed report on the murder weapon you found! It’s all right here in this file, pal.”

Murder Weapon: Broken Spotlight
Notes:  Wound consistent with the weapon. Small fragments of glass that match the spotlight found within the victim’s wound. Blood on the weapon matches the victim. The spotlight must have broken immediately on impact with the victim’s skull. Unknown fingerprints found on the weapon.

”What the…unknown fingerprints?” ”That’s the real head scratcher, pal. We found fingerprints, but they don’t match any of the prints we have on file!” ”Well…fuck. That complicates everything. Are you absolutely sure on this?” ”Absolutely positively, pal! We checked everyone! Even the defendant. We got nothing.” ”Well at least the case against her just keeps getting weaker and weaker, but this doesn’t help us with the real culprit at all.” ”You don’t think it was a g-g-ghost, do you?” ”Nah, a ghost wouldn’t leave fingerprints at all, pal! A shapeshifter from the old comic books would though! Maybe one of those monsters did it!” ”Oh! That makes perfect sense, all we need to do now is find our shapeshifter!” ”Please don’t encourage him, Wheatley…”

-Truth Bullet Added: Broken Spotlight-
-Truth Bullet Added: Fingerprint Records-

”Well that seems to be everything we had found in this area previously…before we go though, I have a favor to ask.” ”Sure pal, what do you need?” ”I just want to verify the handwriting on this letter. Think you can do that before the trial?” ”Heh heh, I thought this might happen, pal! That’s why I brought along my secret weapons!” ”Secret…weapons, Gumshoe?” ”Ho ho, prepare to be amazed, pal! I brought along The Seven Tools of Investigation! Secret Tool Number Five, Mr. Handy!” Gumshoe produces a small machine from his coat with a strange icon resembling an old man on it ”That sounds kinda-“ ”Handy, right? But wait, it gets better! This handy little thing can analyze handwriting in minutes!” ”Well…that is convenient. Out of curiosity, what do your other tools do?” ”Well, don’t tell anyone, but…that’s actually the only tool I’ve got. I’m still working on the other six tools.” ”Then why is this number five?!” ”T-That’s not important right now, pal! Let’s just see what Mr. Handy has to say!” ”Question expertly dodged, Gumshoe…”

Suspicious Letter: Handwriting matches Grubba’s. Also bears his fingerprints.

”So, are you amazed yet?” ”It certainly did its job, so thank you.”

-Truth Bullet Added: Suspicious Letter-

”Well I’d say we’re done here. Let’s head to the true scene of this crime.” ”Right behind you, pal!”

TO BE CONTINUED

The trio of investigators walk to the arena in search of more evidence. ”Well here we are, pals.” ”No one else around…is anyone even taking this investigation seriously?” ”A lot of those fighters just wanna go home. Can’t say I blame em, pal. Not everyone’s a professional like us!” ”Didn’t you say you were new?” ”W-Well…okay, you got me there. I might not be experienced, but you can still count on me, pal!” ”Right…well let’s start searching for clues, shall we?”

Zerdark looks down on the floor again to see the shards of glass still in the same area. Only it’s been marked by the Boos. ”Gumshoe, do you have the official word on these glass shards?” ”Yeah, those shards are good to use as evidence. The results you got from the last trial didn’t get an update. Everything matches up.” ”At least there’s some consistency in the evidence.”

-Truth Bullet Added: Glass Shards-

”By the way, one of the spotlights up there is missing. I think it’s the one in the storage room, pal.” ”Yeah, that was my read too. You’re a little late on that one, but it’s good to see your brain working.” ”My brain works plenty good, pal!” ”Right.” ”Well here’s something you might not have known. The Boos did a test on the floor near the shards here. There’s traces of blood here, pal! And lots of it.” ”I see, good work. That reinforces what I proved in court earlier. This is definitely the true crime scene.”

-Truth Bullet Added: Floor Blood Stains-

”Now we just need to find out how the killer moved the body without being caught…” ”I’m told the backstage area has several guards on duty at all times, pal. It’d be pretty hard to sneak a body past all of em!” ”On the day of the crime however, things were more hectic with everyone moving all over the place preparing for the title match. It’d be easier to transport something you don’t want seen when everyone’s distracted. Especially if the guards already know you’re supposed to be there.” ”What, you think they disguised the body as a prop or something?” ”Not quite, but you’re on the right track. There was a bloody tarp in the storage area. It’s possible the killer wrapped the body in a tarp and transported it that way, though they’d need a wagon or a dolly.” ”Well we found some dollies behind one of the gates over there. You think the killer used one of those?” ”Well within the realm of possibility. The killer wouldn’t appear suspicious at all if he just looked like he was transporting goods to and from the storage room.”

-Truth Bullet Added: Bloody Tarp-
-Truth Bullet Added: Dollies-

”We have the weapon, the method of transportation, but we’re missing another important piece of the puzzle.” ”What piece is that?” ”I’m talking about motive, Gumshoe. Why would anyone want to kill Bandy Andy? In the absence of concrete evidence pointing to the killer, motive can help narrow down the list of suspects. As if I didn’t already have a theory…” ”Huh? You know who did it, pal?!” ”I can’t say for sure without all the evidence, but I do have an idea. Come on, let’s go. I’ll need your help for this, Gumshoe.” ”Oh, sure pal.”

Within minutes, Zerdark’s picked the lock to Grubba’s office again. He and Gumshoe step inside and Gumshoe confronts Grubba. ”Alright, pal! We’re gonna need you to step outside. Police business.” ”What in tarnation?! Hasn’t anyone here ever heard of knocking?!” ”Oh I’m sorry; we’re a little busy investigating a murder. Politeness isn’t exactly at the top of my list of priorities at the moment.” ”Sorry about this, we just need to borrow your office for a bit. We’ll give it back when we’re done. Promise!” ”Well I guess I ain’t got much choice here…I’ll just see myself out then.” Grubba heads out with surprisingly little resistance, though Zerdark can tell he’s nervous. ”Now that the eyesore is out of the picture, I can finally give this place a proper look through.”

Zerdark first checks the fancy bookcase in the room. After looking through all the big books that look like they’ve never once been read, he stumbles across some files hidden between them. ”Hello, what’s this…?”

Stage Name: Supernova Silver Fox
Status: Missing
Notes: Major League fighter who went missing in 1998. No known affiliates.

Stage Name: Crimson Steel Elephant
Status: Missing
Notes: Major League fighter who went missing in 1995. No known affiliates.

Stage Name: Invading Black Dragon
Status: Missing
Notes: Major League fighter who went missing in 1996. No known affiliates.

”Hang on…these are police files!” ”What? Are you sure?” ”Positive pal! These are the official case files for the missing persons cases!” ”How interesting…now what would Grubba be doing with official police records for these cases, and how did he get his hands on them? Another gift from Herringway, maybe?” ”How could he do this? Leaking official files like this!” ”I guess he just really wanted the money. Hm, there’s one more file…”

Stage Name: Prince Mush
Status: Missing
Notes: First Champion of the Glitz Pit. Went missing in 1990. Only known family is a younger sister named Jolene. Also famous for being the first to earn a diploma while training under The Master. Neither of them seem to know where Prince Mush is.

”Hmm…first champion and the first recorded disappearance.” ”Yeah, the Prince Mush case caused quite a scandal for the Pit, pal. Even today, no one knows where he or the other fighters are.” ”I’d wager that’s because they’re all dead.” ”But wouldn’t they turn into Boos and just tell us what happened?” ”You have to remember Gumshoe, Bandy Andy didn’t do that either. I’m thinking wherever these people ended up, Bandy Andy has joined them.” ”So there are even MORE missing Boos? This is getting scary, pal.” ”Well don’t lose your nerve yet, we still have more to look at.”

-Truth Bullet Added: Case Files-

Zerdark’s gaze is once again drawn to the desk. ”I finally have the time to pick this stupid lock…” ”Oh, don’t worry about that pal! I’ve got this for ya!” ”Wait, what are you-“ Before Zerdark can finish speaking, Gumshoe breaks the desk drawer. ”There you go, pal! I opened it for you.” ”Well…that certainly makes things easier, but is this standard procedure?” ”What do you mean? I think we’re allowed to open drawers.” ”I just…forget it. Let’s just take a look inside…”

Inside the desk appear to be blueprints for some manner of machine. The blueprints depict this machine underneath the Glitz Pit arena. There are no details as to what this machine does, but certain parts are labeled. ”What’s all this sciencey stuff?” ”I’m…not really sure. I don’t recognize these terms, but it doesn’t look good. I never had Grubba pegged as a scientist of all things but...wait a minute.” He fishes out the papers he retrieved from the secret room several days ago. ”These are almost identical! The ones in the desk look newer, but the two devices definitely look similar. What are these then? Some sort of prototype? And what’s this about a Crystal Star?” ”I dunno, pal! I’m no science expert.” ”Apparently Grubba is, but to what end…?”

-Truth Bullet Added: Grubba’s Blueprints-
-Truth Bullet Added: Crystal Stars-

”Maybe I’ll get a better idea if I read through these more. I need something from this. What does this star do?” As he ponders these questions, a bell sounds from seemingly nowhere. Then King Boo’s voice can be heard. ”Tiiiime’s up, everyone! I hope everyone’s prepared, because it’s time for our main event! It’s time for our special trial! Everyone, please make your way to the big red doors leading to the arena and I’ll transport everyone to the courtroom! Don’t be laaaate!”

”Fuck! Already?! But I still need time to piece all this together!” ”Hey, don’t get mad at me! I did all I can for ya, pal!” ”I know, I know…you did. Really, thanks for your help. Sadly though, this is where your work ends and mine begins. Now I need to piece this all together during the trial.” ”Well, I’ll be rooting for you, pal! Good luck!” ”Thanks Gumshoe. I’ll admit, it’s good to have the detective for the case on my side for a change…”
